where every little thing is special…
Last Saturday was fun :) The Newman Center had an international event to celebrate the great diversity among our community. So CFM was specifically asked to add some Indonesian flavor to the Talent Show :)
Btw, this is the first time for Newman Center to hold this particular event, because usually they only have International Pot-Luck Party right after the usual Sunday Mass. But this time, Fr.Vinny wants to make it different….
Instead of Sunday, he moved it to right after Saturday Evening mass (5:30 pm). The mass itself was specifically celebrated for the international student community in OSU. Right after the mass, the people moved to the third floor lobby to had dinner. And boy, the place was cramped! Usually there is only like 35-45 people coming, and half of them are Indonesian! Not this time! I didn’t count, but no less than 125 people were coming. Fr. Vinny must be happy to see so many people came :) After the potluck party, people went back to the first floor to watch the show. It began at around 8.15 pm.
Anyway, we decided to contribute two songs.The first one is called Rayuan Pulau Kelapa (Solace on Coconut Island). We can’t figure out how to translate the lyrics, so before we sang – Melissa just told the audience that the song is about “The Beauty of Indonesia” :p Guess what! I sang solo!! Well, just for some part in the beginning of the song. But stilll… At any rate, thank God for strengthen me! I was so afraid that something was going to go wrong, I could forget the lyric, lost my voice, and totally humiliating myself :-s But it didn’t happen, and I can remember all the lyric :) Right after I finished the first two verse, Melissa and Diana join me, and it was smooth all along to the end :D Mayo didn’t make any mistake when playing the piano, he’s a maestro =d>
The other song “Oh Betapa Indahnya” can be considered as a dangdut song. The lyric is taken from Psalm 133. It’s not only a song of praise, but also a part of Gradual Canticle / Song of Ascents. I don’t think the audience know any ideas what we we’re singing (even though Edy had made a slideshow explaining the lyrics in English). Maybe just because they are mesmerized by the dancers :p So big cheers to Stephanie, Maria, Meina, Mich and Adela!! GOOD JOB gurls :) And also thanks for everyone who came and listened to my voice. It must be hard for you guys to not close your ears, but somehow everyone manage it =)) appreciate it… :p
